Slippery yoga mat? Our tips to increase grip on microfibre yoga mat

We love the versatility and durability of the microfibre top yoga mats. Our new Grip+ Yoga Mats have fixed the slipping issue some yogis faced when trying out the microfibre mats. We did by adding a grip layer to the microfibre which texturises the microfibre.

If you don't have one of our new Grip+ mats or have found the slipping has come back with extended use, then we have a simple fix for it. All testing and experimenting has been done on the ERA microfibre yoga mats.

Option 1: Salt it up

In a spray bottle dissolve 3 teaspoons of salt in a small amount of warm water (not too much water as you want it to be concentrated with salt). Spray the salt mixture heavily onto the areas of your mat where your hands and feet go for downward dog and lunges. Let it dry. This will roughen up the surface and get you gripping to your mat again, wet or dry. Repeat as often as needed. We found that there was no change to the colours of the mat using this technique, yippee!!

Option 2: scrub it

Get yourself a hard bristled laundry brush and scrub hard in the areas on the microfibre mat where hands and feet go in downward dog and lunges. Trial out a small patch first, but the microfibre is extremely hard wearing in our experience and did not damage the microfibre. This helps to roughen up the surface for additional grip.

And remember if you want even more grip, spray the mat with some water just before your practice.
